What is an IP address?

An IP address is a number assigned to your internet connection. Websites use it to send data back to you and to estimate where you are.

IPv4 vs IPv6

IPv4 (e.g. 8.8.8.8) is the original format. IPv6 (2001:db8::1) is the newer, larger address space — both are in active use.

How VPNs affect your IP

A VPN replaces your public IP with one from the VPN provider. Sites then see the VPN's IP and location instead of yours.

Why IP reputation matters

If your IP appears on spam or abuse lists, your email may be blocked and some sites may challenge or block your traffic.

Geolocation comes from ipapi.co. Reputation queries use major public DNSBLs. IP history is stored only on this device.
